EXPERT - HISTORY & FACTORY - vol.5

This time, we will introduce the types of wood used in EXPERT.

The clogs produced in the EXPERT factory primarily use two types of wood: "birch" and "alder."

The clogs we order mainly use "birch."

Birch is a deciduous broadleaf tree of the genus Betula in the family Betulaceae, and is called "Kaba" in Japanese.

It mainly grows in cold regions and is often used in Scandinavian furniture, as typified by birch wood from Finland.

Because its appearance and properties are similar to cherry, it is also called "Kabazakura" or "Sakura" in Japanese, and is a material sometimes used as a substitute for cherry.

In Japan, it is used for relatively expensive items such as Scandinavian furniture.

However, there is also a historical background where it was originally often used for safety shoes for workers, so strong materials that were relatively easy to obtain were adopted.

Its wood is moderately hard and strong, with an even and fine grain, and is characterized by little warping or distortion.

It is also highly resistant to drying and relatively strong against moisture.

Because it is resistant to water, flexible, and strong, it is used for flooring, furniture, plywood, and acoustic cabinets.

And the other wood used in EXPERT is "alder."

This tree is a type of sacred tree widely revered in Europe, and is a diffuse-porous broadleaf tree of the genus Alnus in the family Betulaceae, growing on the northwest coast of the Pacific Ocean and in Europe.

It is widely used for furniture, doors, sculptures, and architectural millwork, and is considered a relatively soft wood for a hardwood.

It dries quickly, has good dimensional stability, and has a slightly coarser grain.

It is a relatively soft hardwood species with medium density, and is said to have strong resistance to impact and bending.
